“I understand this is all new to an inexperienced youth like yourself. I was half expecting your denial, but I'm willing to wait, that you become my lover. I will provide, take care and see that no harm falls upon you, as long as you respect me and behave according to your status. “I'm 44 and way past the age for playing. You are everything I've dreamed of for a lover and a companion in life. Your beauty and innocence makes you perfect for me."
With these words, Konrad von Lintorff, a Swiss German banker declared his intentions to a 19 years old penniless student. Guntram was young, kind hearted and exactly looking as Konrad's former lover. I am really
biased with this book. I absolutely love it and have read it multiple
times. The story is perfect for me, there is romance, mystery, angst and betrayal. There are many scenes where you can see how much
time the author put into this book. The descriptions of the art,
museums, history, and scenic locations is inspiring. It is a dark
fiction with rape scenes and violence. Definitely not for the tender heart. There are grammar mistakes, missing verbs and pronouns throughout the novel. I believe it is because Tionne Rogers is not a native English speaker, however that does not change the fact that a good editor is needed before publishing.
There were some over the top scenes, where you can't help but question both Konrad and Guntram's sanity. But with reading it so many times over I can easily say there decisions were due to their personality plus past experiences. Both main characters do not grow in this book. Konrad makes the same mistakes over and over again and Guntram always forgives him. It's quite frustrating. It gets better in the second book.
I have not found a book quite like this, but if you have please leave a comment.
