Archer's Voice | Mia Sheridan

20639274When Bree Prescott arrives in the sleepy, lakeside town of Pelion, Maine, she hopes against hope that this is the place where she will finally find the peace she so desperately seeks. On her first day there, her life collides with Archer Hale, an isolated man who holds a secret agony of his own. A man no one else sees.

Archer's Voice is the story of a woman chained to the memory of one horrifying night and the man whose love is the key to her freedom. It is the story of a silent man who lives with an excruciating wound and the woman who helps him find his voice. It is the story of suffering, fate, and the transformative power of love.

I happened upon this lovely book and I have to admit it is the first I picked up by Mia Sheridan. It’s the fourth book in the Sign of Love series, but it can be read as a standalone. Mia Sheridan’s writing is brilliant and her stories are quite unique. I was moved by Archer and Bree’s love story and now it’s an all-time favourite.

Archer’s Voice had a great story line of two people coming together after traumatic events; each fighting through their pasts to make room for a future. Archer was so incredibly sweet and naïve to the world and sadly avoided society. He didn’t have an easy life and everything he learned was from books and his eccentric uncle. It seemed like Bree took up Archer as a pet project. There was a romantic interest there, but she was let down when Archer didn’t respond as she expected. Bree tried to get Archer out of his shell and out into the world. Both characters had baggage and the story made me tear up throughout. From friends to lovers, it was quite the emotional journey. Not only do the both of them come into themselves, but they find out what life means to them.

I did notice Bree’s character needed a little polishing and there was something missing in her character for me to really love her. Also when they were reminiscing about their pasts, it didn’t feel very emotionally charged. These were chilling incidents that had a dreamlike quality to them. There was various times where it didn’t feel real to me. However, the romance between Archer and Bree was spellbinding.

I loved the writing style and did end up checking out her other works. However those were hard to compare to Archer’s Voice. Archer and Bree had a beautiful bond that was difficult to parallel. This coming of age story was a solid read and recommended.
