Charlie and Silas’s memories begin with a girl dropping her books on to the floor in a classroom. They don’t know their names, where they live or any of the people around them. They remember celebrity names, how to work a GPS and other basic things. They also know they are dating thanks to their friends. When Charlie corners Silas and asks him what her last name is, they both realize they were in the same situation.
“If I were going through this alone, it
would be easy to just say I’m going crazy. But I’m not alone. We’re both experiencing this, which means it’s something
else entirely. And that scares me, Silas.”
I didn’t expect to like let alone love Never Never as
much as I did. We get to follow Silas and Charlie as they piece together their
past and figure out why they lost their memories in the first place. It’s told in two point
of views both Charlie and Silas. I love the complexity of Charlie, how she
tried to hide her vulnerability through a mask of strength. But Silas is there
and he easily sees through it, takes whatever she throws at him and supports regardless. Not only is the suspense filled-plot enthralling, the personality of both characters
complement each other beautifully.
The story is well written with texture
and depth and the pacing is flawless. “…stories I know, but don’t remember
reading. How odd to be made of flesh, balanced on bone, and filled with a soul
you’ve never met.” I love the seamless writing. The ending was perfect, in a cliff hanger sort of way. We didn’t get many answers but it didn’t leave me frustrated or annoyed, just reeling. This is only the first book and it left me craving the second installment.
I absolutely
recommend this book!
