Completely exceeded my expectations.

I was looking for a nice light read and found this retelling of the Beauty and the Beast. Word of warning this was a definite adult read.

Louvaen is a widow and psychotically overprotective of her sister Cinnia. Understandably so, since Louvaen practically raised Cinnia, since their father was a weak character.  When their father gets into another debt with Jiemenin, the beautiful Cinnia’s hand in marriage is demanded. Cinnia then runs away with her admirer Gavin heir of Ketach Tor and promises to return with money. It’s up to Louvaen to beat some sense into Cinnia and bring her back home before her chastity is compromised.

I absolutely loved Louvaen’s personality. Not only is she blunt when she speaks, she is intelligent, protective, loyal, stubborn, and not afraid to get physical to knock some sense into hard headed people. She’s described as dark haired, tall with average looks, oh and a shrew. Cinnia on the opposite hand is delicate with blonde hair, blue eyes and pale skin. She is supposedly gorgeous. Although similarly, she is stubborn as her sister, sweet and kind hearted.

Gavin is the prince charming. A beautiful man complimenting Cinnia in looks. He falls for Cinnia at first sight and does everything he can to help. Ballard, Gavin’s father is a mystery. Always cloaked with claw-like nails, he is a mystery. You find out the back story of how and why he was cursed. Unfairly if you ask me. He is a strong alpha male character, somewhat humbled by the curse. I loved how protective he was of Gavin.

I loved Louvaen and Ballard’s relationship. It was a slow growth with eventual steamy scenes. The book was read in both Louvaen and Ballard’s point of views. The writing was well done and you got to see into both their minds intimately. Even though this is a retelling of the fairy tale, it is worth the read with quite a few unique twists.
