Masters of Blood and Bone | Craig Saunders

Holland's a man who's good with death. Good at death.

When his daughter goes missing, he finds himself pitted in a deadly game against the Gods themselves. Powerful enemies surround him—a changeling, a mage, and a god who wants to destroy the world.

With silver bullets in his gun and death on his mind, Holland aims to set things right...or die trying.

For the captors of Holland’s daughter, death is not only on it’s way, it’s in their very possession as Holland's daughter isn't just a girl...in fact, she's barely mortal at all...

She's Ankou, Death's daughter, and she's not an easy mark.

The battleground has been set, the world’s at stake, and all Hell is about the break loose.

Masters of Blood and Bone is an epic clash between good and evil, life versus death, Gods against mortals, a timeless story of power and corruption and one man’s pursuit to protect what he loves at any cost.

I read constantly and books start to seem very similar in plot and theme, even predictable. It’s when you find something extraordinary like Masters of Blood and Bone that breaks the monotony and invigorates the passion of reading. There are some books that have that spark and you can’t help but be pulled in.

This story is about Matthew Doyle Holland, a fat man, Holland’s missing daughter Ankh, a God, a powerful wizard, and a killer all merged to create an epic piece. What initially attracted me to this book was the fascinating cover. Then there’s the writing, it’s imposing and abstract in a way, quite exhilarating. The story was slow to unfold. The author gave pieces of information and you are left to make assumptions. No handouts, only the necessary and you can’t help but ask more questions and read on.

I admired the complex relationship of Holland and Ankh and how Holland taught her everything about humanity to prepare her for adulthood. From the creativity of the characters, the originality of the plot, and the fluidity, everything about the story was captivating. Craig Saunders is a remarkable author and I definitely will be checking out his other work.
