As a cassandra sangue, or blood prophet, Meg Corbyn can see the future when her skin is cut—a gift that feels more like a curse. Meg’s Controller keeps her enslaved so he can have full access to her visions. But when she escapes, the only safe place Meg can hide is at the Lakeside Courtyard—a business district operated by the Others.

Shape-shifter Simon Wolfgard is reluctant to hire the stranger who inquires about the Human Liaison job. First, he senses she’s keeping a secret, and second, she doesn’t smell like human prey. Yet a stronger instinct propels him to give Meg the job. And when he learns the truth about Meg and that she’s wanted by the government, he’ll have to decide if she’s worth the fight between humans and the Others that will surely follow.

If you like fantasy novels, you should try this one. It feels like I've read them all and this one was not quite what you would expect. It was not an insta-love urban fantasy type of romance. Girl meets wolf, wolf smells girl, bam! Mates!

The story begins with an introduction to the terra indigene that inhabit Thaisia, a continent on Namid. There was a great setup of how the humans came to be on the land and how the workings between Humans and the Others was established. It was definitely an engrossing introduction. In comes Meg Corbyn, running to the Courtyard in the town of Lakeside. Seeing a Human liaison job offering on a window, she decided to go for it. Since the job is on the Other's land, it was a great way to hide from the men after her. After all, everybody was afraid of the terra indigene.

Meg was a blood prophet. To see visions she needed to make a deep cut into her skin. She was owned and used as a seer, but escaped to taste freedom. Simon Wolfgard was the owner of Howling Good Reads, a book store. He was a wolf shifter and leader of the Lakeside Courtyard. He offered her the job even though, he believes she was hiding something. The characters were so fascinating. Each were distinct and had their own personality. Meg's character was  easily liked, since she was so naive, hardworking, and had an inner strength. She was also stubborn and tried to keep the Others from getting away with mischief adding much needed humour to the book. Simon was one scary wolf, yet at the same time charming. I could say that with a lot of the characters actually. The Other's were truly not human-like. It was said in the book by Simon, how he does not understand why the humans think that they want to be loved when all they want to do was eat the humans. You see this time and time again in the action sequences how alien they truly are. There were quite a few scenes with them eating humans too.

In most paranormal novels I have read, romance was such a centre point. This novel had no romance. You got to find out the different groups of paranormal, their pecking order and the inner working of the mysterious Courtyard that was furiously protected. It was so hard to put this book down and I have gotten my hands on the second book. I believe there is also a third part that will be released next year! If you want to know what happens to Meg, please do read.
