The problem is, the only people less convinced than Meda of her new-found role as Good Girl are the very Crusaders she’s trying to join. So when a devilishly handsome half-demon boy offers escape, how’s a girl supposed to say “no?”

After all, everyone knows a good girl’s greatest weakness is a bad boy.

Crushed began with Andromeda Melange at a new Crusader’s headquarters. After deciding to side with the Crusaders, she’s finding it much harder than she expected to become ‘good.’  On top of that, being imprisoned, starved, and ostracized, there’s only so much that Meda can take. It seems like the bad boy was the only answer for a little freedom.

Armand, the other Halfling Meda met when she was captured in the first book, makes another appearance. He has a more important role in Meda’s life in Crushed. Jo was the screaming, argumentative angel on one side and Armand was a great embodiment of the devil, sitting on Meda’s other shoulder whispering sweet nothings in her ear. Armand was a sensual creature that embraced his evil side, which allowed him to easily accept Meda’s.

Whereas it appears as if Jo was always reprimanding Meda, not siding with her, nor praising her on the effort she made to be good. We see Meda’s struggle to live up to Jo’s expectations and still maintain her identity. After all, the last thing anyone wants is to be shoved into a premade mould. There’s a lot that happens in this book and Meda growth was substantial.

I really enjoy Eliza Crewe’s writing. The world-building, characterization, and well written thoughts easily surpassed my expectations. She conveys each character’s strengths and flaws clearly. This was not a traditional young adult, romance novel. Meda was extremely bloodthirsty; she has an incessant need to kill in order to keep her hunger at bay. Even the romance is considerably different. This book kept me on my toes and I continuously questioned whether I was predicting correctly.

This is a great sequel to Cracked. I sincerely enjoyed it. If I’m not mistaken the third installment will be releasing in August 2015 and I’m excited to see where Eliza Crewe will lead us.
